INNER VOICES is a site-specific live audio/video performance based on the realtime scanning
of an architecture, monuments or an artistic or design artefact.
The project
developed by Gianluca Sibaldi and Marco Monfardini uses Extrascan: a specially by the
artists developed electronic device: a scanner able to "read" any
object, architecture or living being in its formal elements, translating the
object's outer and inner dimension in sound and video images.
A bar of
light is the primary tool in this operation of realtime scanning, overpassing
in several sequences the scanned object.
It is able to read any object, architectural structure or living being in its formal elements and translate them in real time into sounds and video images.
The performance includes live musicians, in particular piano and/or strings interacting with the electronic sound generated by the scanner. Thus a constantly evolving sound dialogue is created between the instruments and the digital sound, created by the analysis of the subject. A video transfiguration resulting from the graphic interpretation of the data collected by Extrascan is visible on screens positioned in the location.
An alternative visual and audio dimension is given to the audience by processing the image in real time. The normally static characteristics of the subject acquire a dynamic life, creating an emotional counterpoint.
InnerVoices is also a digital reinterpretation of the urban space, which conveys the historical heritage of our countries in a contemporary dimension.
